Production credit: interviewer, Kati Vita
Description: English

Freelance broadcaster Kati Vita interviews three people about the investigation by the Dusseldorf war crimes court into the actions of 10 former SS officials at the Treblinka concentration camp during the Second World War. The first interviewee is Alfred Speiss, the chief state prosecutor. Next is defence lawyer Heinz Bilo. Both men are in Montreal as part of an eight-member delegation to interview witnesses. The last speaker is Treblinka camp survivor Oscar Strawczynski, who spent 11 months at the camp and is now a resident of Montreal. He was a tinsmith in Poland and witnessed the murder of his parents, wife and two children in the camp. Strawczynksi breaks down as he talks about his experiences in the camp. He says that the horrors of the camp should not be forgotten and that society needs to do everything possible to ensure that such a thing will not repeat itself. He says that it is obvious that Treblinka was a camp set up to kill people and that no one can deny that people were murdered there. <7mn>
